Department Commander, Denise Milton, Bagley, MN

Denise Milton, Bagley, MN, was elected Commander of the Department of Minnesota at the annual state convention in July, 2016.

MiltonMilton becomes the second female commander of the 80,000-member organization in the past three years.

She was installed at the conclusion of the convention by Minnesota’s first woman commander, Peggy Moon of St Joseph.

Milton told the convention that her theme for the year would be Victory for Veterans, and she said a major priority for her one-year term would be the plight of homeless veterans.

Milton has served as post commander, district commander [twice] and has held a number of Department level positions such as membership director, chaplain, vice commander, and chairman of various committees.

She serves on the National Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitations Council.

She is married to Dennis Henkemeyer, who is a Past Department Commander and who is now serving as a National Sons of the American Legion Vice Commander.  She noted that two children were watching the convention from Germany, while serving in the armed forces.
